3-D Dinosaur Adventure
Forgotten Games · 1994
Published
3-D Dinosaur Adventure turned a children’s reference disc into a virtual dinosaur theme park. One CD-ROM contained a narrated storybook, film theatre, quizzes, a 3-D museum, Create-A-Saurus and the Save the Dinosaurs game. Instead of moving through a conventional encyclopaedia, users explored a collection of attractions built around prehistoric life.
Why It Mattered
It captured the promise of early multimedia: facts, animation, sound, video and games could all live inside one colourful package. Learning and play were deliberately mixed together, making the computer feel less like a reference tool and more like a place to explore.
CD-ROM package
- A February 1994 review identifies Knowledge Adventure as the supplier and describes a multimedia dinosaur park on CD-ROM.
- The same review records full-motion video, stereo sound and included 3-D glasses.
Reference and activities
- COMPUTE! documented an interactive dinosaur reference, narrated storybook and 30 films.
- Other areas included quizzes, Create-A-Saurus, a 3-D museum and Save the Dinosaurs.
Contemporary PC context
- The Computer Paper review records DOS memory, mouse and CD-ROM driver requirements.
- Both retained reviews were published while the title was current.
