Status

Preserved - as contemporary PC edutainment in 1994

Overview

3-D Dinosaur Adventure turned a children's reference disc into a virtual dinosaur theme park to explore.

Its single CD-ROM contained a narrated storybook, films, quizzes, a 3-D museum, Create-A-Saurus and the Save the Dinosaurs game. A February 1994 review identified Knowledge Adventure as the supplier.

Full-motion video, stereo sound and included 3-D glasses added to the multimedia presentation. Instead of following a conventional encyclopaedia, users moved among attractions devoted to prehistoric life.

Why It Mattered

The title captured the promise of early multimedia by placing facts, animation, sound, video and games inside one colourful package. Learning and play were deliberately combined, making the computer feel less like a reference tool and more like a place to explore.
