Overview
Ty’s Beanie Babies were small, softly filled animals that moved differently from rigidly stuffed plush toys.
The original nine appeared at the 1993 Gatlinburg Gift Show before reaching specialist retailers in early 1994. Their partially filled bodies gave the toys a flexible form.
Each character carried a red heart tag with its name, short poem and birthday. These individual identities distinguished the toys within a larger collectable lineup.
Why It Mattered
Beanie Babies paired a compact, flexible plush design with named characters and individual heart tags. Those features made each toy distinct while presenting the wider line as an expandable character collection.
The Original Nine
- The original lineup comprised Brownie, Chocolate, Flash, Legs, Patti, Pinchers, Splash, Spot and Squealer.
- The nine were shown in 1993 and began reaching specialist stores in early 1994.
Beanbag Construction and Heart Tags
