Overview
Hogs of War sent cartoon pigs into turn-based battles across destructible three-dimensional landscapes.
Released in 2000, it combined weapons, vehicles and class-based progression with military parody. Rik Mayall supplied the game’s comic voices.
The game appeared on PlayStation and Windows. A later ESRB classification listed PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita, while the PC edition remains listed on Steam.
Why It Mattered
The game found a memorable balance between tactical planning and slapstick destruction. Its comic presentation softened the battlefield theme without removing the satisfaction of lining up an attack.
Tactical Battles and Pig Squads
- Turn-based battles combine weapons, vehicles and class-based progression.
- The Steam PC listing describes four classes: Heavy Weapons, Medic, Espionage and Engineer.
- Rik Mayall supplied the game’s comic voices.
Classification and Platform Evidence
- The original ESRB entry names Infogrames and lists Dreamcast and PlayStation/PS one; a classification listing does not establish that every listed version was commercially released.
- Its Teen rating cites Animated Blood, Comic Mischief and Mild Language.
Later PlayStation and PC Listings
- A separate ESRB record names Sony Computer Entertainment America and lists PlayStation 3, PSP and PS Vita.
- The Steam page lists a Windows edition and gives 3 November 2000 as its release date.
