Overview
Fistful of Aliens was a 1998 YES! Entertainment line of colourful collectible alien miniatures.
The range included figures, Space Pods, vehicles and playsets. Character attributes and power values turned collecting into a simple strategic battle game in which figures could be compared and played against one another.
Two series were released, while a planned third series never reached release. Mail-away rewards and larger battle products gave collectors further ways to expand the game.
Why It Mattered
Fistful of Aliens gave small collectible figures a purpose beyond completing a set. Faction match-ups and printed power values made them part of a lightweight battle game, while playsets and promotional rewards connected collecting with continued play.
Faction Battle System
- Dredrocks beat Gangreens through strength, Gangreens neutralised Bluspews with slime, and Bluspews melted Dredrocks with acid.
- Figures from the same faction or colour were resolved by comparing the power values printed beneath their feet.
- Additional classes included Mutants, metallic RAMMs, Crystallites, SciRoids, Jangutz Khan and the Elemental.
Capture Jangutz Khan Promotion
- Battle Packs earned 1 point, Space Pod Packs 2, War Packs 3 and the SciRoid Battleship Playset 6.
- Rewards ranged from an Alien Mini Pack at 3 points to a die-cast hand-painted Jangutz Khan and T-shirt at 16 points.
- The promotion was scheduled to end on 30 March 1999 or when supplies ran out, with orders due by 30 April 1999.
Release and Product Scope
- The line received two released series, with a third series planned but unreleased.
- The trademark application covered toy figures, vehicles, weapons, action figures, playsets and a strategic war game.
