Overview
Frutang was an orange-flavoured drink produced by Indonesia's PT Tang Mas and sold nationwide in small plastic cups.
Accounts place its launch in either 1997 or 2002. By 2005 it was documented in a transparent cup that displayed the orange drink, followed by printed packaging in 2006 and a taller 230 ml format in 2008.
Sales reportedly peaked in 2005–2006 before competition grew. Frutang was still associated with PT Tang Mas in 2020–2021, but its current production and ordinary retail availability are unknown.
Why It Mattered
Affordable cup drinks became a familiar part of everyday life in Indonesia, particularly around school canteens, neighbourhood warungs and roadside stalls. Frutang's low price and nationwide distribution helped make it accessible to consumers beyond major supermarkets.
Its changing packaging and product range also reflected growing competition in Indonesia's ready-to-drink market, as manufacturers experimented with new designs, sizes and flavours.

Sales and Later Traces
- Kontan reported that sales peaked in 2005–2006 and that Frutang's dominance weakened from 2007 as more manufacturers entered the cup-drink category.
- Consumer research continued through 2015, while reports from 2020 and 2021 still associated Frutang with PT Tang Mas without confirming active manufacture.
- A located marketplace listing is out of stock, and no formal withdrawal notice establishes that Frutang was discontinued.
