Overview

Red Fusion was a red, fruit-flavoured Dr Pepper line extension launched in the United States in 2002.

Its bottle put a large Red Fusion wordmark above the smaller Dr Pepper logo, while the drink mixed several fruit flavours with the familiar Dr Pepper profile.

The first commercial batch was bottled in Springfield, Missouri, in June. Cadbury Schweppes described a third-quarter launch, and a Texas shop advertised it in September. Its precise national on-sale and withdrawal dates remain unknown.

Why It Mattered

Red Fusion offered a new identity without entirely leaving Dr Pepper behind. Its name dominated the bottle, while the smaller Dr Pepper logo connected it to an established brand. The advert’s “Who’s your soda?” line made that balance part of the pitch: a different drink with a familiar name behind it.

Production and Rollout

  • KSMU reported that the batch bottled in Springfield, Missouri, on 13 June 2002 was Red Fusion’s first commercial production, distinguishing it from earlier test runs at other plants.
  • The same report forecast Springfield-area retail availability that weekend and national distribution in August; these were announced plans rather than confirmed on-sale dates.
  • Cadbury Schweppes later described Red Fusion as a third-quarter launch without giving an exact national launch day or month.

The Allsup’s Retail Offer

  • An Allsup’s Store 79 advertisement in Groom, Texas, offered two burritos and one 20-ounce drink for $1.49 from 1 to 28 September 2002.
  • The drink choices were Dr Pepper, Diet Dr Pepper or Red Fusion; $1.49 was the meal-deal price, not a bottle-only price.

Corporate and Sales Context

  • PepsiAmericas listed Red Fusion among brands licensed from other owners in its 2002 US operations table, not among PepsiCo-owned brands.
  • Cadbury Schweppes management credited the Red Fusion launch and a marketing programme with helping Dr Pepper improve later in 2002, while reporting flat full-year Dr Pepper volume.
  • The reported 6% figure applied to the wider North America Beverages business, not to Red Fusion, and no product-specific sales total is established.

  • Cadbury Schweppes Report and Accounts 2002

Original complete HTML exhibit captured; North America Beverages narrative printed page 18 directly read. Regional +6% is not a Red Fusion growth rate. Dr Pepper total volume flat, later-year improvement attributed partly to third-quarter Red Fusion launch; management account, not an independent Red Fusion sales audit. Third-quarter broad launch does not invalidate June local commercial bottling. Exact original withdrawal date not supplied.

Original HTML filing captured. Item 1 US principal-brand table inspected including HTML column structure: Red Fusion is in Brands Licensed from Others, not PepsiCo-owned column. Bottler brand distribution is not brand ownership, every-state coverage or audited product-specific sales. Not a confusion with Pepsi Blue.

Original 12-page PDF captured, not just an OCR index. Printed page 5 is PDF page 11, visually inspected. Allsup’s in Groom Texas advert offers two burritos and a 20-ounce drink for $1.49, expressly allowing Dr Pepper, Diet Dr Pepper or Red Fusion. Separate $1.69 multipack offer not conflated with Red Fusion. Advert proves local advertised offer, not purchase receipt, stock count or universal nationwide pricing.
