Defining Feature
Small orange mascot dancing to “Together in Electric Dreams”
Status
Reintroduced - returned for Flextras in September 2026
Overview
Zingy was EDF Energy’s small orange mascot, dancing through its British Feel Better Energy adverts.
Launched in 2012, the Keepon-inspired character moved to “Together in Electric Dreams” while EDF promoted Blue+Price Promise. It then spread through press, direct mail, digital, social and customer-rewards material.
A basset-hound television story followed in 2013, and Zingy appeared in advertising again in 2016. In September 2026, EDF brought the character back for its Flextras rewards and energy-flexibility programme.
Why It Mattered
A dancing orange character gave people something recognisable to associate with an otherwise invisible household service. Zingy drew attention while the surrounding advertising explained EDF’s tariffs. His return for Flextras in 2026 shows how the same mascot could introduce a different offer, carrying familiarity from one campaign into another.
Campaign Timeline
- The earliest directly inspected launch report is dated 3 April 2012. It described the 60-second television advert as already on air and recorded a Metro coverwrap that day, but not the first transmission date.
- The 30-second basset-hound advert premiered on 8 April 2013, with supporting print activity scheduled to begin on 15 April.
- YouGov documented Zingy in EDF advertising during May and June 2016 and reported an eight-point rise in its measured ad-awareness score.
- EDF confirmed Zingy’s return during September 2026. The precise return date is not established.
Character and Production
- Zingy was created collaboratively: documented contributors include AMV BBDO, Keepon’s creators, BeatBots, AIS London, Studio Liddell and Tapestry. No sole creator is established.
- EDF’s campaign submission described Zingy as inspired by Keepon, but Zingy, Keepon Pro and the My Keepon toy are distinct subjects.
- BeatBots called Zingy a robotic mascot, while campaign material also carries CGI credits. The production method cannot be assigned uniformly to every filmed or printed appearance.
- The 2012 launch film was directed by Nick Gordon, produced through Somesuch & Co and edited by Dominic Leung.
Campaign Claims and Limits
- Blue+Price Promise and electricity-matching statements were EDF advertising propositions; the records do not independently audit their performance.
- The public award entries are client-and-agency submissions, and many effectiveness figures are redacted. Account and acquisition totals cannot be treated automatically as unique people or households.
- EDF’s 2013 award entry said Zingy could not be used during the London 2012 Games, but an original rulebook confirming the restriction’s scope or basis has not been identified.
- Dated records establish appearances in 2012, 2013, 2016 and 2026, not continuous use between them. The date of any earlier retirement or withdrawal remains unknown.

Zingy gave EDF Energy’s price messages a recognisable face. A winter execution in senior creative Mark Urey’s portfolio turns a three-winter fixed-price offer into a snowglobe scene, showing how the character carried the campaign beyond television.
