Wonka Products

Forgotten Food & Drinks · 1998–2014

Published

Nestlé used the Wonka name for a changing range of chocolate bars and sweets with playful branding, unusual fillings and prominent purple packaging. Surviving records document products including Xploder, Fizzy Jerkz and later Wonka-branded chocolate.

Why It Mattered

The range turned a fictional confectionery identity into real products whose novelty was central to their appeal. Frequent changes also make Wonka a case where individual products need separate dates rather than one invented lifespan for the whole range.

Chocolate With a Wonka Identity

- The Wonka Bar provided the range’s most direct and recognisable chocolate product. - Different versions appeared in different markets and periods, so surviving wrappers do not represent one universal recipe. - Purple packaging, oversized lettering and fanciful product names helped connect otherwise different products under the same Wonka identity.

Xploder and Fizzy Jerkz

- Xploder was documented by 1998 and combined milk chocolate with crisped rice and popping candy. - Its crackling texture made the experience of eating it as memorable as the chocolate itself. - Fizzy Jerkz extended the range beyond chocolate with brightly coloured, fruit-flavoured sweets built around a fizzy sensation.

Changing Products and Discontinuation

- Wonka confectionery changed repeatedly rather than remaining one continuous, fixed range. - Later products included Scrumdidlyumptious, sold under the Wonka Exceptionals identity with toffee, cookie and peanut pieces. - Nestlé introduced another British Wonka chocolate range in 2013, including Millionaire’s Shortbread, Chocolate Nice Cream and Crème Brûlée.
